Survival Tip of the Day: Back to Snakes

There are seven poisonous snakes in Louisiana. There are rattle snakes, two are coral snakes, then there’s the copper head, and cotton mouth. Most snake bites are not fatal in and of themselves. What kills is the stress that comes with being bitten. Remain calm but take action. Keeping your wits about you can and will save your life. First, do not panic! Second, wrap and absorbent bandage two to three inches above the bite. You want it loose enough to slip a finger under. Third, Do not cut the bit area. Use a snakebite kit suction cup to draw out the poison. Fourth, Get to a doctor. Bring the dead snake if you can.
